Understanding Art Therapy

The creative process involved in expressing one’s self artistically can help people to resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness.

You don’t need to be talented or an artist to receive the benefits, and there are professionals that can work with you to dive into the underlying messages communicated through your art, which will aid in the healing process.

Art therapy can achieve different things for different people. It can be used for counseling by therapists, healing, treatment, rehabilitation, psychotherapy, and in the broad sense of the term, it can be used to massage one’s inner-self in a way that may provide the individual with a deeper understanding of him or herself.

Kapiti Art Therapy was established as a wonderful alternative to helping people.

Every person will unconsciously mix or choose colours to their personal preference. Through using simple painting techniques you will notice over a period of time a significant change with the use of colour that will help improve any trauma, shocks, unhappiness etc. As this is a non verbal technique it is ideal for everyone to connect with their emotions in a safe way. As aspergers, dispraxia, dislexia, discaculia, ADD, autism, are an imbalance of the left brain and Art therapy will stimulate the right side of the brain which over time balance symptoms out.

Areas of special interest include:
Emotional stress, Asperger's, ADD - Dyslexia, Dyscaculia and Dyspraxia, Motor skill difficulties, Balance difficulties
Anxieties, Self esteem, Trauma, Separation, Grief, Spiritual mindset, positive thought process

Luscher Colour Diagnostic Test
The Luscher colour test is a psychological test, where the colour selection is guided by the unconscious mind to reveal to the real person and not how the person perceives themselves and will show a spectum of personality and traits.

Art Therapy also helps with:
Balance and coordination, Muscle strength, School readiness, Planning daily activities, Budgeting every day life
Handwriting difficulties, Sensory processing disorders, Memory and concentration, Feeding (picky eaters)
